6-2013
Camp Campbell on Kerr Lake was surrounded by a flotilla June 14-16, 2013. Scouts enjoyed sailing, tubing, canoeing, swimming, fishing and just hanging out at the lake. Participants included Sea Scout Ship 244, Boy Scout Troop 244 from Cary and Venture Crew 451 from Durham. In the evening Sea Scouts took Boy Scouts and Venture scouts for a two hour sunset cruise on the larger sailboats and then ended with anchoring in a cove to sleep on board overnight. Scouts also learned that backpack style meals work just fine for cooking on board or on a nearby dock. Our fleet included Stardust, Phoenix, Blue Heron, Silver Goose and the Gryphon. Additional powerboats and canoes were provided by the troop and a fleet of Sunfish provided by the Venture Crew. A special thanks from Sea Scout Ship 244 to Satterwhite Marina and the Steele Creek Yacht Club for their support of scouting on Kerr Lake and to the Coast Guard Auxiliary patrol boat that dropped by for a visit.
